3 Day Morocco Desert Trip from Marrakech to Fes

Explore Morocco on an enjoyable 6-day tour from Tangier. During this trip, we’ll visit the best places in Morocco. The tour begins in Tangier, where we’ll visit Cape Spartel and the Cave of Hercules. We’ll then head to the Rif Mountains to explore the blue city of Chefchaouen and the Roman ruins of Volubilis. We’ll also visit the sights of Fez and Meknes, and take a camel ride in the Merzouga desert. We’ll explore the stunning Todri and Dades gorges, visit historic kasbahs, and cross the High Atlas Mountains. Finally, we’ll finish the tour in Marrakech.

Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley Merzouga Desert

On the first day of your magical trip to Morocco, we’ll pick you up from Tangier, the beautiful city known as the Bride of the North. Together, we’ll explore Cape Spartel and the Cave of Hercules, then move on to Chefchaouen, passing through Tetouan and the Rif Mountains, where we’ll enjoy breathtaking scenery. Overnight at a hotel in Chefchaouen.

Day 2: Chefchaouen - Volubilis Roman Ruins - Meknes - Fes

After breakfast, explore the beautiful blue alleys of Chefchaouen. Then, visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the beautiful mosaics, columns, and ancient arches. Next, continue to Meknes, the Ismaili capital, to visit Bab Mansour, the Basin of the Sahara, the Royal Stables and Granary, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Finally, continue to Fez, where you will stay in a luxurious riad.

Day 3: Guided tour of Fez

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Fez to explore the historic city of Fez, the cultural and religious center of Morocco. We will begin by visiting the gate of the Royal Palace, followed by the medieval medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will enter the city with a local guide and visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Nejjarine Spring, the tanneries, and the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, the oldest university in the world. Next, we will visit the Jewish quarter, the Mellah, and then head to an ancient fortress for panoramic views of the city. Finally, we will return to your riad.

Day 4: Fez - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, we will continue our journey in Morocco, where we will move south to Ifrane, known for its snow, low temperatures and Alpine-style houses, nicknamed the Switzerland of Morocco. Then we will visit the Cedar Forest where Barbary macaques live and you will have the opportunity to feed them while walking in the forest. After that, we will continue our journey to Midelt for lunch, then pass through the Tizi N’Telghmt Pass and walk along the Ziz Valley where we will enjoy panoramic views. In the evening, we will reach the Great Merzouga Desert where we will ride camels and cross the sandy desert, stopping to enjoy the sunset. Finally, we will arrive at the camp, which combines traditional Bedouin tents and the luxury of hotels, where you can enjoy Berber drumming music and dance around the campfire under a clear sky studded with stars. Day 5: Merzouga Desert - Rissani - Erfoud - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley

Wake up early to enjoy the beautiful sunrise in the desert. After breakfast, we leave the desert and drive to Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalt region. We will visit the Grand Souk of Rissani, a major trading center in the region. Next, we will continue to Erfoud, where we will visit a petrified marble workshop. We will then drive through the palm groves of Trouj and Tinejdad to reach the Todra Gorges, an ideal spot for rock climbers. You will have the opportunity to wander through the gorge and admire the beauty of the landscape. Free time for lunch. We will then continue our journey to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, where we will wait at the “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Finally, we will arrive at our hotel in the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert - Rissani - Erfoud - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley

After breakfast, we will continue our tour of Morocco where we will visit Kelaat M’Gouna to explore the Valley of the Roses. We will witness the annual Rose Festival where locals showcase their rose products, from perfumes to cosmetics. Then, we will drive through the palm groves of Skoura. We will continue to Ouarzazate where we will visit the studios where famous films such as Alexander the Great and The Mummy were filmed. We will also visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, which has appeared in many films and series such as Game of Thrones. After that, we will visit the Kasbah of Telouet and then continue our journey to Marrakech, passing through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and the High Atlas Mountains. We will enjoy lunch and take photos in distinctive locations. Finally, we will arrive at your accommodation in a Riad in Marrakech, where our tour ends.
